ANNA’S

img_0828

Another little gem of a tea shop in Folkestone that you really have to discover, it may look little from the outside but it has a heart bursting with everything wonderful inside.  Very cosy, super atmosphere and delightful people to serve you.  The walls are full of different menus and what a great selection for a small business to offer.

I sampled the afternoon tea of fruit scones with cream and jam, delicious scones bursting with fruit making them all plump and moist, wish I could make them so fat mine always turn out looking like pancakes!

Fresh coffee in a cute cup and saucer that is refilled as often as you like, with them noticing when you needed a refill so I never had to ask, great customer service.

The whole shop is very shabby chic and the unusual bit that I thought was so good was the different book on each table, mine was a cake baking one but would have loved to look at them all.  Selection of cakes was very good with the chocolate fudge cake looking very attractive.  Fresh flowers on the tables and a bud on your plate made everything look like so much care had been taken to make your visit so enjoyable.  With an outside garden, small but big enough for a few tables there is nothing that Anna’s is missing, just wish I had found it sooner.  For the readers of Folkestone it is on Cheriton Place which is the one way road up from Chambers.

Then to make this even more interesting downstairs they have furniture for sale that has been painted very shabby chic or even just varnished.  A good selection if you are in need of furniture or handmade pieces.

So many things to look at in such a small place but not feeling cramped.  You may have to wait a little bit longer but it really is worth it as everything that comes out of that kitchen is prepared with so much love and attention.

DAY AT THE FOUNTAINS IN FOLKESTONE

IMG_0168

Folkestone harbour has some great attractions now and the one the children enjoy most are the fountains, you never know how high the water is going to go.  Zac had never been before so he was a bit hesitant at first and decided to have a feel just to make sure the water was real, funny boy.  After a few minutes you could not stop him from running about in, out and over them, we had such fun just watching him.

Love that picture above, I think my photography is getting better.  After all that enjoyment it was time for food.  At Chummies food stall you can get hot and cold seafood, noodles and chips.  Noodles were the firm favourite, eating them the quickest way possible! LOL

A lovely summer day enjoyed by everyone, we definitely need some more of these as seeing the sun is very rare this year.

DINNER WITH FAMILY

Friday evening we finished the week of with dinner at The Hungry Horse. Mia and Zac behaved really well and ate everything.

I was surprised Kara ate all the curry big plate as it was enormous!

Of course I thought the ice cream was the best bit or was it the wine as it was free, I do like a bargain.

I thought Mia was going to combust as she was so pleased with the dessert and popping candy.

It was the first time Billie and family had met Dan, such a nice bloke and he’s looking after Kara really well.

FRIENDS AND MY WEEK

While we were in Whitstable this week we had a look round a couple of charity shops where we found a collection of these Moroccan Perfume Jars which were all different colours and designs so my friend Corinne bought us both one, I really do love my friends and this will always remind me of our day out.  So elegant, fragile and simply beautiful.

I saw these shoes in a magazine and really liked them, have looked on-line in Topshop but cannot find them anywhere so I guess they are sold out.  Why advertise them if you have not got many of them?  Very exasperating.

El Cortador was where I met my friend Helen for lunch yesterday, we have both lived in Spain so we decided on Tapas, which was delicious and cooked to perfection.  I have been here a few times and am never disappointed, the service is great and there is a lovely segregated seating area out the back.

The prices are reasonable so many people pop in here for lunch.  The Old High Street is getting busy with the many studios and offices occupied now.

I had a week indoors a couple of weeks ago as my daughters car was very poorly and then she had to go and buy another one.  They up-graded as needed something bigger to pull the double horse trailer so this is what they ended up getting.  It is in super condition and has been really looked after so I think they got a bargain.

The children were very impressed!

That is another week over, I plan to have a quiet weekend to do some writing.  The weather man keeps promising us a heat wave but I have given up believing him anymore and just tend to sit outside as soon as I see the sun.  I can see a lot of people going on last-minute holidays in September if this carries on as it is really so depressing.

I am now reading A Seaside Affair by Fern Britton which will be my 27th book this year.

MOTHERS DAY WEEKEND

I started the weekend feeling a bit sad about my two grandmothers not being here for me to tell them how much I loved them, they were such an important part of my childhood and made me the person I am today.

My two daughters have made this weekend one of the best I have had, I got to go out Saturday evening with Jodie.  We had drinks in Follies and then went over to The Tipsey Pigeon for a cocktail and the most wonderful food that I have had in a very long time.  We had a section of duck, lamb, pork, crab, chunky fries, delphinoise potatoes and a selection of fresh bread.  The sauces that were added to these dishes made them so different and my taste buds felt like they were exploding with all the tastes.  The champagne cocktail was the best I have ever had and went down so well, leaving your mouth all fresh.

Dessert was the gypsie tart, I have loved this dessert since school and this was on the finest crunchy pastry base I have ever had.  Jodie had the chocolate pudding which looked just as good.

The conversation flowed and the time went very quickly, it always does when you are having fun.  I cannot remember the last time I went out in the evening so it was a welcome change and I enjoyed getting dressed up and having some fun.

Jodie gave me a pink Pandora bracelet with three charms, it is so beautiful and I have wanted one for ages.  I think the little bag of the world is great and will be popping that in my handbag as you have to pay for bags in shops now here.

Sunday, the sun was shining even though the wind was a bit cold.  I went into town and met Billie and Jade, we did a bit of shopping and we all got something so that was good.  We went into Starbucks and had a lovely coffee, I tried something different and had a caramel Machiatto; I will definitely be having this again as it was delicious.

Billie gave me three charms for my bracelet she got me last year, I love the pussy cat one.  Also chocolates that I have opened already, very nice.  The mum cushion will go nice on my bed or the sofa as it is pink.

I have been very spoilt, but had a super weekend with my two girls.  I love them both so much and it was really nice to spend a bit of quality time with each of them as they both lead very full lives.

LUNCH AT FOLLIES, FOLKESTONE, KENT

It was our monthly lunch this week, we celebrated Sheila’s birthday at the lovely bistro Follies.  Such a great atmosphere in this restaurant with all the antiques in every knock and cranny and wonderful staff that never rush you and explain all that you would want to know.   One of the great things that I like is that the starters you can have as a main meal so it sounds good if you say your having a starter and a dessert! I do like the desserts here and their cakes are splendid.

Nachos with lamb, ground lamb with hummus, lasagna and cannelloni all went down a treat.

Sheila got some lovely presents……

We had a laugh with the Lemon Merangue but think they better change the name to Lemon Bon Bon or something as there is no Merangue in those.  The Tiramisu was delicious, think I will have some ice cream with it next time. Sticky toffee pudding and custard disappeared quick as did the coffee and walnut cake.

Sometimes you cannot please all the people all the time and poor Lynda was a bit put out that they gave the ice cream she asked for in a tub and not a glass bowl, we did try to cheer her up by telling her she should think herself lucky as it was a proper spoon and not a little wooden one, like you used to get with the tubs. Lol We did laugh.

Another brilliant get together, it does make the months appear to go fast though as they come round all to quick.  I love our little group as everyone gets on so well, no playground fallouts, I guess because we are all old lol.

The chandeliers they have for sale are so nice, I wish I lived somewhere they would fit in.  I took pictures of the menu so you can all have a look and I think it’s great to show the prices of things as this is viewed in so many countries now.  They are also doing a two for one breakfast menu at the moment which is fantastic value and choices.  Every Thursday the pizzas are £5 each!  Bargain.

LUNCH WITH KARA

Corinne and I joined Kara at The Acadamy for our first Christmas lunch and what a high standard that set.  Everything was cooked to perfection by the students and served by a lovely lad who was a first year catering student. At the unbelievable price of £15 it was definitely a Christmas bargain. The chatting was non- stop as Corinne caught up with Kara and a few laughs were had by all. Keep up the fantastic cooking in Room 213 guys.

Kara made the chocolate and rum tart, sure it was the best bit but I might be biased lol

We even squeezed in a cheeky shopping trip and got ourselves Christmas tops. Lovely day with friends and family, I love it  xx
