WEEKEND EVENTS

FRIDAY 18th NOVEMBER 2016

So today it is the big Christmas Lights Switch on in Folkestone, with many other events happening like meeting santa and fireworks, not sure why the need for fireworks when so many pretty lights will be on to see.  It is also the start of The Folkestone Book Festival which I really love as there are so many great events happening with it getting bigger and better every year.

The lovely Carol Creasey will be in attendance at the Congo Coffee house from 4pm for a meet the author and book signing event.  We all have that relative that has everything they need so what do you buy them for christmas?  How about a signed book from the author dedicated just to them, I know I would love something like that under my tree.  I have heard from a reliable source that the homemade cake in Congo will be out of this world!  Not to be missed and also my lovely granddaughter Kara will be rushing up from her day job to be your fantastic waitress with Marianne in Congo so please pop in and say hi.

SATURDAY 19th NOVEMBER 2016

I will be at the Quarterhouse in the morning as attending a workshop about How not to write a book, hopefully picking up some tips about how to avoid any pitfalls and to bring out the best in your story.  I like these workshops as even if you only pick up one tip you also meet some interesting people who share your hobbies and of course a bit of networking.

There is also a great sounding interview by Sir Martin Rees about HG Wells  at 4.30 at the Quarterhouse, gutted to be missing this.

From 4pm I will be at Congo coffee again to welcome the fantastic author Guy Fraser-Sampson.  I have read his book Death in Profile and found it extremely good, you cannot beat a good murder and the best bit is that this is the start of a series called The Hampstead Murders.  Three days it took me to read this, I also did not guess who committed the murder; I love a book that keeps you guessing.  The next book in the series is Miss Christie Regrets which is published in January so if you get book vouchers for christmas make this your first choice; hopefully I will review this for publication day.  The cake at Congo is just to ‘die’ for so get there quick and again you will meet the delightful Kara and Marianne your host’s for the afternoon.

SUNDAY 20th NOVEMBER 2016

The Book festival is well underway with some great debates, workshops and events happening in Folkestone.  I will be attending a workshop in the morning about drawing the best out of the history and environment of Folkestone for inspiration in your writing.  I love finding out facts about the area we live in and promoting our town.

National Novel Writing Month has been a bit of a failure this year for me, mainly due to the fact that so many other things are happening.  I have written a few chapters but I know this time of year so many other things fill your diary and I am not my healthiest during the winter.  I do propose to write for the whole of January as will not be going out in the cold and all the festivities are over then, well that is the plan.

Peaches will be staying in tonight so the fireworks do not scare her away again.  Have a great weekend everyone. x

DAY SEVEN

images-1

I have been writing a lot today also deciding that it is warmer doing it under a duvet and blanket than sitting at a desk, now I just have the problem of cold fingers!  Had to do some planning with the time-line today so my writing total was only 2,145 but it is all flowing nicely and all being well should write a couple of thousand words tomorrow.

I also did my photography class tonight and only have one lesson left then do my exam, I am going to be so nervous; I cannot actually remember the last time I did a test of any sort.  It is great to be able to use more techniques on the camera, I am just having trouble remembering them automatically to do them when out taking photos as normally it is all quick stuff.  I will have to take more snaps  of landscapes and trees, lol.

The cat has not been out since the firework episode, keeping close to me to the extent of laying on my during the night, by my side I could live with but does she have to get on me.

I have also got another couple of christmas presents and am actually thinking of wrapping them up as I am running out of room to store them all, I will make a list as last year I forgot what I had wrapped and ended up in a right mess.  I have three family birthdays the week before christmas as well so need to be very organised, I tell myself this every year but still end up buying more for the kids.

My best friend has an operation tomorrow so I will be thinking lots of healing, happy, get well soon thoughts to her and hoping she makes a quick recovery so we can partyyyyy and drink lots of bubbles xx

NANOWRIMO

Today is day six of the writing challenge, it has not been an easy six days as I have had other things to-do as well but I am confident that I am heading in the right direction.  My word count for today is 1,578 not as good as what I would have expected by day six but anything is better than nothing.  I don’t think people should beat themselves up about not completing the expected amount as just writing is something to be proud of.

I was expecting to complete my latest chapter last night but that did not happen as the cat disappeared because of the fireworks so I was out looking for her.  The fire-works were horrendous here and did not stop for hours, I am sure they are getting louder.  All week we have had them going off and I am sure there will be more tonight.  I feel old objecting to them so much, I also do not like the harm they do to innocent children and think there should only be registered events with people not allowed to just buy them in shops.  I even saw them in Poundland yesterday so they are in everyone’s budget now which makes it worse when teenagers start playing about with them!

This afternoon I spent making cards with Izzy round at Jodie’s, very pleased with my results and was really surprised at how much I really enjoyed doing it.

NATIONAL NOVEL WRITING MONTH

Today I got myself all comfortable ready to write and then this happened.

I was very kind and waited till she was asleep and then moved her slowly off me.  There were a few moans and her claws came out to try to hang on but we both recovered, just.

The writing was underway, I am pleased with the effort even though I would have liked more so I eventually settled on 2,856 words today.

I will catch up more next week as I have a clear calendar, thank goodness!

What have you got planned for the weekend?  I am going to attempt to make some greeting cards on Sunday with Izzy, should be fun, it is the thought that counts, maybe I should write that on the back of what I make.

The photography course is excellent, I have just two more on-line classes then I take the exam to see if I have remembered any of it and get my diploma, sounds impressive I think. I can now take pictures in manual mode so all is good, mind you it takes me ages to get all the settings correct so there are no quick shots of anything.

I will be pleased when the fireworks stop as they are so annoying, I sound old saying that but they are all the time now as people seem to let them off for any occasion.

I am off to watch my favourite program on TV tonight, The Blacklist, I love it.

FEEL GOOD FEELING

img_1387

What a glorious day, the sunshine is so warm in my garden; can you spot the cat?  I am loving the colours of the grape-vine this year, all I need now is a red Acer tree (think that’s right)

Lovely blooms and colours, I really like Fucias and they stay all year here as no frost and warmer temperatures.  The turf has all been pulled up and my oiled stepping-stones put down, with Camomile, spreading Thyme with pink flowers and Lilly of the valley in between them.  Will need some more fragrant ground cover in the spring; I think it will look and smell gorgeous.

I recently had a short story published in the Folkestone anthology, I can now say I have received a written review!  How wonderful does that make you feel, it not only encourages you to keep going but it also lets you know someone is reading your work.

As I was so impressed with this review I would like to say a very big thank you to Sheila for not only taking the time to read it but also to put pen to paper, it has made my year!  Here is the review.

Hi Karen, just sat and read your short story and I was really impressed! I can’t begin to imagine where you start. How excited she is at the beginning and full of love for Steve. The anticipation of the Summer Ball and then the let down and despair at the end of the love affair. It’s all there, well done!!

Please keep it up Karen. Looking forward to reading your book when it’s finished! Xxxx. 🙂

I will now get back to writing, have a lovely day everyone. x

FRIENDS

One of my best friends Sylvie that I have known for years came over to see me today, it was lovely to sit and chat….never a silent moment as we always have something to talk about. They have opened a new pub in Folkestone under the Hungry Horse chain, very impressive and been renovated to a brilliant standard. So we had a lovely lunch and a dessert that I will defiantly be having again. Just as we had finished my daughter and her four children joined us and we sat outside in the lovely sunshine while they played on the new equipment.

Tonight I have acquired three children, one more to come in the morning as their Mum starts work tomorrow. Bit earlier to bed each night to get them in the swing of getting up early on Thursday for the new term at school.

My cat appears to have a friend but they do not play or fight they just lay there looking at each other and the other cat keeps trying to come indoors. It is not getting the message that I do not want it inside, so glad I never put a cat flap in as it would just be in all the time.

How’s that for a rainbow?

DISILLUSIONED

I have always thought my cat was very clever and special as she comes in to me every morning and taps me to wake me up, very good if I have forgotten to set alarm.

But no, I find out today on Facebook it’s nothing special a lot of cats do it 😔

She does however play fetch the ball with me! Honest, I will do a video. She will be special!
